This week many of the cities in the world celebrate Earth Hour. These cities, in collaboration with their industries, organizations, and homes, turn off their lights for one hour. In Toronto, the lights off begin at 8 pm EST. So if you are home then, please turn off your lights for one hour. It is good for the environment and will help reduce your electric bill for one hour’s worth of consumption.
Now, many of you might be winging your way to your caribbean vacation, but you can still do your part when you get to your destination, or even while you are in transit. First, during your transit to the beautiful islands why don’t you symbolically turn off your walkmans, ipods, and other electronic conveniences you usually use during the day. Of course your electronic gadgets do not use electricty from fossil fuels. But it shows your concern about the worsening condition of our atmosphere as the world warms.
Also, if you get to your hotel room before 8 pm EST, prepare to turn off all the lights in your hotel room for one hour. If you are staying with friends or family, please bring up the topic of Earth Hour. Ask them to turn off their lights during the scheduled time. The world needs your small gesture of appreciation.
Time is running out as the mammoth ice cubes melt in the arctic and in Antarctica. Do your part to buy some time for the world while our politicians figure out how to make some money off this imminent disaster. It will happen, some predict in the next two years, if we don’t heed the advice of the climatoligists.
Have a Happy Earth Hour on your Caribbean vacation!
