Caribbean Vacation: Dancing in the Streets in the British Virgin Islands

So you missed the Carnivals in Trinidad and Rio. Don’t worry. The British Virgin Islands (BVI) has a big fete happening in August of each year.

It is small compared to what you experience in Trinidad or Rio — but don’t let that stop you. Don’t miss a beat — the excitement from the BVI’s shindig would remove some of your inhibitions (at least for a few days).

Over sixty islands make up the BVI. They are all pristine by nature. Unspoilt. Idyllic. The spotlight, however, will be on the Virgin Gorda. There will be plenty of wailing and wining.

The annual party began to celebrate abolishing slavery. The first carnival was so good (the islanders didn’t know a street party could be so much fun) they tattooed the carnival spirit into the culture.

What can you expect from this big street party:

  • street parade — “party animals” dancing behind live bands
  • dances
  • private parties
  • costume competitions
  • soca, reggae, music
  • caribbean foods

Remember… don’t plan to leave too soon after the fete. I know you want to “jump and wine” at another happening in the Caribbean. Perhaps you can’t wait to get home to boast about the good time you had in the BVI.

Stay awhile and regain your true self. You’ll be taking a big chance going back home with your new attitude. Your friends may not know you.

Put on your slim-fitting bathing suit. Go explore the white sandy beaches. Take a swim in the turquoise colored water.

When you’re good and ready, hop on a plane to at least one more Caribbean bacchanal.

Okay, it is time to go home. Bye!
