Caribbean Vacation: This Should Make You Feel Good

Here I am sitting in my apartment wondering about those balmy Caribbean islands. It is a small wonder because I live about a stone’s throw away from Lake Ontario — a beautiful and placid lake in the summer but a fierce rink of snow, ice, and wind in the winter. It is about 8 degrees Celsius (46.4 degrees Fahrenheit) outside.

A feat considering we were shivering in subzero temperatures over the past few days. How cold was it? Well, imagine getting frostbite after having your skin exposed for about six to seven minutes. Such severe conditions would likely have you thinking about one of your popular Caribbean destinations. Forget that. You’d probably decide you had enough. There you go tearing yourself from your comfortable chair, picking up the phone … “Oh, no!”… The line is busy. You then hear a real person’s voice on the other end of the line.

“Your call is important to us. Please remain on the line and our Caribbean travel agent will take your call as soon as possible.”

While you wait for the travel agent, the on-phone commercials get your juices flowing. You listen to a fine assortment of vacation packages to warm Caribbean islands. Seven commercials later, the travel agent takes your call. You’re already strolling the white sandy beaches of Jamaica, St. Lucia, Nevis, St. Kitts, Martinique, … “How can I help you today?” You get back into your cold body like a vacuum sucking dirt from your carpet.

“Get me out of this ice hole,” you go on.

“Excuse me?”

“I’m sorry,” you plead. “I want to go to one of those warm Caribbean travel destinations.”

“Well, there’s a flight leaving tomorrow for ….”

On the other hand, you may be the type who keeps a lid on your frustrations. You know a trip to one of your favorite Caribbean escapes can wait. After all, this respite from the harsh winter can last for at least a few more days. You remember the forecaster calling for rising temperatures throughout the weekend and into Monday and Tuesday next week.

What you can do instead is take the necessary precaution: Call your travel agent and book yourself to one of your wished-for Caribbean travel places in the sun.
