Enjoy Vegan Chicken on Your Caribbean Vacation

KFC Canada, the chain of fast-food outlets that sell the Kentucky Chicken brand settled with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) about how it would raise and eventually kill chickens that end on your plate.

This is a big win for the animals and birds that live under cruel conditions because we invest in them to satisfy our appetite for meat. We mistakenly believe that if we don’t eat meat we will not get enough protein in our diet. But studies have shown this to be false and we can have a vegan dish and get all the protein we need.

Now you will still get chicken at your favorite restaurant on your caribbean vacation. But bear in mind that PETA will focus its attention in other countries including the United States now that it has won big in Canada.

The Canadian franchise hasn’t been doing too well financially, and the five-year boycott of its stores must have played a major part in its decision. But whatever the reason millions of chickens on KFC farms will live in less crowded cages, a big issue for animal-rights groups. The company will also phase out non-essential drugs and hormones that fatten the birds for the kill.

Sadly, this is a negotiated settlement, so farmers will still raise chickens for food. However, KFC promises to only buy from suppliers who use gas rather than the more cruel methods for slaughter. The KFC outlets will also serve a vegan ‘chicken’.

Vegan ‘chicken’ is a soy based product that includes nutrients for good health. This delicious dish comes in breast fillets, nuggets, or strips similar to animal products, and has the taste and texture of real chicken . You can use it in a sandwich, wrap, or in stews.

The good thing about vegan ‘chicken’ is no one has to kill a chicken to make such yummy food. Try one on your vacation in the islands where birds are the mainstay of many backyards.
