The grandeur and beauty of the Caribbean captivated the earliest explorers who compared them to heaven. Historians credit the Spanish explorer, Christopher Columbus, for discovering a region where the peaceful Arawak people lived.
However, it wasn’t all sun and sand for the early explorers. The Caribs, a warlike tribe, battled the seafarers with their wit, fighting skills, and strong resistance. In the end, the newcomers killed most of the native people, clearing the way for many more expeditions.
