Protecting Your Vision

Part 2

Pinhole sunglasses
Pinhole sunglasses is an alternative technology. Inexpensive but stylish. Natural vision therapists rage over this technology — citing a conspiracy between eye doctors and the optical industry. At the same time, The Optometrist’s Handbook of Eye Diseases describes pinhole glasses as another aid for both distant and near vision.

Pinhole sunglasses contain no glass or clear plastic like your regular sunglasses. Instead, metal or plastic lenses make it impossible for light rays to pass through. The inventors knew you wouldn’t buy these glasses if you couldn’t see through them. So guess what they did?

Yes, you’re right. They punched several pin-like holes in the lenses closely resembling a honeycomb. Giving life to the term “pinhole”. These holes cause light to be focused rather than scattered to the retina. For example, they reduce the brightness of the sun, just like ordinary sunglasses. Except, unlike ordinary sunglasses, they do so by creating a smaller pupil which improves the vision.

Looking through these small holes in the lenses you can read a good book. Or spy on the HOT number sitting across from you on the beach. But don’t stop there. Go ahead — give your vacation buddy a dirty look, just as you would with regular sunglasses. Some pinhole sunglasses have built-in UV protection. So you get a sunglass effect. And better vision at the same time — with no need for expensive prescription sunglasses.

Pinhole sunglasses improve visual acuity. You can use them indoors or outdoors. They can last a lifetime. On the other hand, you should not use pinhole sunglasses while driving. Or any action where you need good peripheral vision.

During your Caribbean travel life you should wear sunglasses with ultraviolet protection. It is a must. Especially if you plan to spend several hours in the sun. Choose a good pair of sunglasses to prevent damage to your vision.

Remember… Protect your eyes with sunglasses during your Caribbean travel life.
