Part 1
Protect your vision during your Caribbean Travel Life. Ever wonder if those sunglasses you’re wearing during your caribbean vacation protect your vision? Well, it depends. Are you wearing the ordinary sunglasses that you bought at Walmart’s? Or, does yours come with prescription lenses? Are you hip to trying an alternative technology? Here’s a quick review of the different choices.
Ordinary sunglasses
Some observers believe that ordinary sunglasses weaken your vision in two ways. First, they reduce light entering your eyes. This makes everything look darker and harder to see — not good during your Caribbean travel life. Second, you run the risk of making worse any refractive error in your vision.
A refractive error means you are nearsighted, farsighted, or have an astigmatism.
This happens because the pupil becomes wider — offsetting the loss of light when you put on glasses. In other words, the wider the pupil, the more any refractive error leads to poor vision.
Third, ordinary sunglasses are an inexpensive alternative for your Caribbean travel life. Since they typically cost little, you don’t need to worry much about caring for them. In addition, you can carry as many pairs as you can afford.
Prescription sunglasses
Prescription sunglasses are an improvement over ordinary sunglasses. For instance, unlike ordinary sunglasses, they don’t lessen light entering your eyes. Also, they don’t add to the refractive error in your vision.
While prescription sunglasses are expensive, you could hold out until the right time. For example, buy them at the same time you’re buying your regular glasses. Retail outlets usually offer a discount when you buy a second pair. This may also apply to having your sunglasses UV coated.
Finally, you also need to change them whenever there is a great change in your vision.
Converting your clear lens glasses
Another alternative is converting your plain lens glasses into a pair of sunglasses. Here you save the cost of buying a new pair of sunglasses. Again, this only applies if you have a slight change in your vision.
Of course, you may not want to wear the same old frame during your Caribbean travel life. You want to look chic while you are sunbathing on the beach.
